“I DO NOT EXHIBIT MY DRAWINGS BUT I EXPOSE THE SPECTATOR FACING MY DRAWINGS”
I immerse the viewer in these drawings, in a kind of empathy, inviting them to put themselves in the shoes of the children represented. Through these different portraits, I evoke a real humanism in human beings, by reflecting the state of mind of these young people whose dreams have been violated and stifled.
I am from the city of Bamenda, Cameroon. I’ve been drawing since the age when I knew how to hold a pen. My older brother’s drawings fascinated me, and that’s where I cultivated my love for drawing. I entered the Foumban Institute of Fine Arts in 2010. Since then, I have mainly dealt with subjects around humans and their place in society in my drawings.
I represent the world of children which is a world that I love very much. Sometimes I say I do doodles. These scribbles relate for me to our childhood. It’s like a game reminding me of those gestures we used to do when we were little. My work evolves every day, with the facts of everyday life. In 2018 I made a drawing of a child, called Child and the rose Flower, who is holding a rose at chest level with his arms crossed. His skin is multicolored and covered with a shirt. Another Our reality drawing, made in 2018, shows four children holding each other by the shoulders. What I wrote on their t-shirts represents the future of these children. Between yesterday when they were slaves and tomorrow when I wondered what would become of them..
